Hello! I want to let you know a bit about me to help you determine if I will be the right fit for you.
I have been counselling adults and youth with moderate to severe mental health concerns since 2017. I can help if you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, problems with addiction, sexuality, unhelpful thoughts, and finding meaning/purpose in life.
I have been a Social Worker since 2002 when I received my diploma in Edmonton. I then went on to complete my degree at the University of Victoria and completed a Masters of Social Work program at the UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna.
I currently live, work, and play in Vernon on the unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan people.
Mindfulness and stillness are values that I cherish. It is in stillness that we can reflect and self-reflect on our life. I believe we need to feel it to heal it.
I value connection and family time more than anything. Relationships are what make life meaningful. This is part of the reason I am so passionate about counselling, it's the relationship and genuine connection that is so important. I value working with and helping people.
Fitness has been an important part of my life, I have been a fitness trainer at a gym for 17 years. I believe our physical health affects our mental health. So whether I'm coaching strength training at the gym, running with buddies, or making leisure connections while paddleboarding/skiing/walking or bike riding. I believe it's important to move to keep us moving forward.
These are some of my values and I look forward to hearing about what matters to you.
I have been registered with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW) since 2005. This governing body monitors and ensures ethical standards, enhances the quality of practice, promotes high practice standards, maintains a continuing competence program, and investigates complaints. Their duty is to serve and protect the public, as is mine.
I am also a member of the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) which is committed to ensuring that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging are at the forefront of our actions and recommendations.
I have been trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Motivational Interviewing, and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I have trained with Dr. Kevin Miller in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I also have experience facilitating multiple groups such as: Relaxation, DBT, CBT, Relapse prevention, Choose to Change and Substance Use Day Treatment programs for both adults and youth.
My mission is to provide people with a safe space to connect, feel valued, and be listened to. I am committed to helping people move forward in their lives.
As someone who has struggled with anxiety, I know how challenging it can be. You are the lead character in your life and I will be a supporting role to help get you where you want to be and have a life worth living.
